I never thought that I would be asked to speak at BeFit London, the UK’s only health and fitness festival for women. But on Friday, that dream came true and thanks to Reebok I got to share my passion in a room full of people who made me feel so welcomed. It was a career defining moment and it has left me feeling motivated, inspired and hungry to do more.
Running is something that I will always encourage people to run because it’s something that I didn’t always enjoy. I never used to be good at it so naturally I disliked it. But I kept practicing and practicing and now I’ve fallen so deeply in love with the sport that has changed my life. It gives me a sense of purpose, it helps to build me mentally as well as physically and it has also helped shape my career.
I think the thing I enjoyed the most about the talk at BeFit is that I got the chance to speak to so many of you afterwards and I was so surprised to log back on my Instagram to find that I had been tagged in Instagram stories. My inbox was bursting with words of encouragement and thank you’s. I have never felt so appreciated before in all of my life. I felt so humbled because I’m not a huge blogger with 100k+ followers, but it was so heartwarming to see that the messages that I am putting out are being heard.
One of the questions that I was asked during the talk was how did I become a fitness professional. I think the reason why I still find this journey and the opportunities that come with it suprising, is because I didn’t actively set out to become a blogger or a fitness professional. I didn’t wake up one day and say “I’m going to be a blogger”. It’s something that happened gradually. I actually set out to be a journalist, a Sky Sports News presenter to be exact. I was convinced that this was the road for me but somewhere between leaving university and working for a big news broadcaster, the wind changed direction and I found myself walking down another path. It was a path that I had never been down before but it felt familiar. It felt like I was finding my way back home.
I just want to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for your support and your love. All of your likes and shares. Without you I couldn’t do this and I am eternally grateful to have you on this journey with me.
