Since discovering the benefits of coconut oil, it has become one of my everyday essentials. I always carry a small pot of it in my handbag because its uses stretch far beyond cooking. Vita Coco sent me a few samples of their coconut oil and on the box it said “Eat it, wear it, and swear by it”, so I thought I would share with you how I eat, wear and swear by coconut oil.

Eat It

I fry and roast all of my food in coconut oil because it is healthier than other oils and it makes your food taste so good! I don’t actually like the taste of coconut, but I love coconut oil! Coat your sweet potato fries in coconut oil and cook them in the oven for 30-40 minutes, for a soft on the inside and crispy on the outside finish. I add it to bakes to make sure that my brownies and cakes are soft and I also use a small amount of it to sweeten my pre workout coffee.

Wear It

Coconut oil does wonders to your hair and skin. If you hair is feeling dry or suffering from heat damage, put a bit of coconut oil in your hair to help it to restore its natural oils. I sometimes sleep with it in my hair and wash it off the next morning (wrap your hair in a silk scarf to prevent it from getting on your pillows) to find that my hair is beautifully soft and looks healthy. I use it both on my natural hair and my extensions.

I apply coconut oil daily to my scars and stretch marks to help improve their appearance. I’ve used Bio oil and Shea Butter in the past but they made very little difference, so I am now trying my luck with coconut oil. It penetrates the deeper layers of the skin better than other oils, which helps to heal the dermis layer and encourages scars and stretch marks to fade.

Swear by it

I believe in the power of eye creams, but recently I have swapped my eye cream for coconut oil and I swear by it! The skin underneath our eyes is thinner and drier than the rest of the skin on our face, which makes it the perfect condition for wrinkles to form! I apply a small amount of coconut oil to the area underneath my eyes and I allow it to soak in before I go to sleep. Since using coconut oil as an eye cream, I have noticed that my skin looks and feels more hydrated and my lines appear softer.

How do you eat, wear and swear by coconut oil?

I haven’t actually used it as a make up remover yet! Such a great idea, will give it a go 🙂 x
