Spring has sprung. I know, I can’t believe it either. We seemed to have skipped winter and fast forwarded to mid march where the daffodils are blooming and…dare I say it, you can go outside without wearing a coat! I don’t know where this beautiful weather has come from but it’s put a spring in my step. My fitness motivation slipped a little bit after the wedding and Honeymoon. But, now that the days are getting longer and the air is getting warmer, my motivation has returned and I feel excited to workout. If you’re stuck in a rut or feel bored by your workout routine, here’s how to spring clean your workouts in 4 simple steps.
Set New Goals
The first thing I did was head back to the drawing board and revisited all of the fitness related goals that I set at the beginning of the year. Some of these goals were no longer relevant and some of them I have already achieved. Like the 105kg deadlift which I achieved this week. I actually set out to lift 100kg by the end of the year goal, but I underestimated my strength and my motivation. So now it’s time to set some more goals! Revisiting and resetting your goals will help kickstart your motivation because it’s easier to stay on track when you’ve got a goal to work towards.
The Reebok Cross Fit open starts at the beginning of Spring and just like thousands of people around the world, I too have become a Cross Fit fiend. It’s a workout like no other. It combines strength, speed and muscle endurance. Like me, most of the exercises you won’t be able to do, but that doesn’t mean you can’t give it a try. I recently did a Cross Fit workout on board HMS St. Albans, with Reebok and the WOD (workout of the day) that we did was called Grace. We did 30 clean and jerks for time. It’s a simple workout to do and it’s great if you’re new to Cross Fit but it’s not easy! If you want to find a few Cross Fit workouts to do, check out a list of WODs here.
Train with a friend
Working out with a friend will not only help add a bit of variety to your routine, it’ll also help you to work beyond your comfort zone. They’ll encourage you to try something new, run faster and because they’re there to spot you, they will encourage you to lift heavier too. I find training with friends builds my mental strength too. So next time your friend asks you to join them for a boozy brunch, ask them to join you for a workout instead…followed by brunch!
Nothing makes you feel healthy like a green juice, so if you are trying to get out of a rut, try a juice cleanse. I’m doing one at the moment but instead of replacing my meals with a juice, I’ll have a juice in-between meals instead. I train a lot and in order to keep up with my body’s nutritional demands, I need to eat! But by drinking a Presscription Juice before breakfast and in-between meals means that I’m getting extra vitamins and nutrients that may have been lacking in my diet. My skin looks brighter and I feel more energised too.
